Of all the hair colors, nothing stands out in a crowd like a fiery redhead. What's really amazing about reds are how versatile they are. There's literally a shade and intensity of red hair color to suit any woman's taste. The key is finding the best red to bring out the vixen in you.

Red hair requires proper care. That means sticking to a color-safe shampoo with a low pH and a color-depositing conditioner; it actually deposits color into your hair instead of stripping it away, so your hair stays vibrant instead of looking faded and worn out. Use products that are protective of your dyed 'do and don't strip your hair. Always apply a thermal heat product onto your hair before using any heat-styling tools, to prevent damage and keep your red-hot hair from getting fried and dry.

As with all shades, red hair color comes in different types. Permanent hair color is just what it sounds like. To permanently change your hair color, the natural color must be stripped out, so this is best left to the professionals, especially in the case of red hair color, where an accident can leave you looking like Bozo instead of Beyonce. Home kits are a single process color.

They contain much lower levels of hydrogen peroxide that bleach a little of your natural color out, and deposit the color in the same step. Using these for the first time is especially tricky with reds, because if your hair has warm undertones and you use a gold or copper toned color, you can end up with orange hair. Semi permanent and deposit-only color can give you an idea of what your new shade will look like without permanently altering the color of your hair, but these can only take you darker; they don't lighten.

If your motto is go big or go home, then a bold, vibrant red is the shade for you. There is a wide array of stunning shades to choose from. Rich, deep claret reds compliment a pale, but warm, skin tone. If you really want to take it to the edge you can go for the unnatural, neon-like, red. Just be sure you choose a red that matches your skin tone or you'll look like death. Cool skin tones need a violet based color, and warm skin tones need a warm, copper/orange-based red.
